About

“Building an impactful cycling community”

How We Started…This small group of riders started this initiative in January 2023, with a few outrides in and around Makhanda. Antony with his love of riding, met these young cyclists on the trails and was inspired to help them to grow this initiative and get more cyclists involved in order to grow cycling, keep the kids off the streets and make a positive difference to the cyclists as well as the youth of Makhanda.

What We Do…The Amariders do regular outrides in and around Makhanda. The Amariders have started formalising single track trails by clearing and making them rideable in order to enable the broader cycling community to make use of them. They have been marking these trails for various distances and levels of cycling experience and now have  +-100km of mainly single track routes around Grahamstown. They will also be offering guided cycling outrides for the community. In addition to the positive growth within the cycling community, the Amariders are also committed to reducing gender-based violence in the communities in which they live. They do this by assisting people who feel unsafe leaving their homes (particularly at night) to get basic or emergency supplies.

The Difference Made…Amariders has  truly become a dream come true with the Amariders completing their 2nd G2C with 16 participants on the 28th July 2024. Almost doubling their first G2C quota. The Amariders also did the Kariega Classic in December 2023.
